Old Bags Onward

We’re over the moon to welcome Canterbury Old Bags United to the Eagles family.

The Old Bags is a group of football mad women who have come to play the beautiful game a little later in life and are joining us to help with our development of girls’ football in Canterbury.

Girls having the chance to play organized football is a cause close to the heart of Old Bags founder, Jo Treharne. Jo wanted to play football when she was young, but as a child of the 70s those opportunities weren’t there for girls. And having watched her husband play for years and years she decided it was about time she, and others like her, had their chance too.

The Bags have around 40 members mostly aged 30 and over who meet regularly to play football, get fit, have fun and make friends. They play in recreational tournaments across the south east and have recently taken part in the ‘Old Girls’ World Cup in France.

They also run two indoor Futsal teams who compete in the Kent League.

So watch this space for developments in Canterbury Eagles Girls’ football, and if you’re interested in playing for the Old Bags (currently their oldest player is nearer 60 than 50 so age is no barrier) their training sessions are at the following times and locations.

TRAINING SESSIONS

Summer at the Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School 7.30-9pm
