Eagles Disability teams enter KDFL

We’re excited to report that Canterbury Eagles has been admitted to the Kent Disability Football League (KDFL).

We’ll be running two adult pan-disability teams next season; Canterbury Eagles Spitfires will play in Championship 1, managed by Sam Baker and coached by Kerry Harris, and Canterbury Eagles Hurricanes will play in Championship 3, managed by Tony Newington and coached by Simon Groom.

Dan Porter, Eagles Club Secretary, explains what this news means to the club:

“The disability section of the club is a fundamental part of our future vision. We’re delighted to welcome such an experienced group of disability coaches onboard and can’t wait to see our teams competing in the KDFL for the first time next season. It's a great platform on which to build as we continue our efforts to bring football opportunities to all parts of our community.”

While manager Tony Newington is also delighted to be on board.

“It’s a real pleasure to be part of an accredited club under the England Football banner.   Canterbury Eagles puts the Community at the heart of everything it does and makes all players and coaches very welcome. I look forward to being part of an organisation that’s looking to further develop disability football.”

From a player’s point of view, joining the KDFL is also really good news. Adam Dyer, who plays in the disability squad, says:

“I really enjoy playing for Canterbury Eagles and look forward to training every Wednesday with the others. The training sessions are good for both my fitness and my mental health. My hopes are to get better in the future, especially when it comes to playing tournaments”.

We’re also looking to run a youth section as soon as we can. If any younger players are interested then please get in touch via canterburyeaglesfc@gmail.com.

And finally, we’ve recently been approached by the Kent FA about the possibility of us running a blind/visually impaired team, so we’ll keep you informed of developments in this area too!
