Referees Co-ordinator

Overview

The Referees Co-ordinator will develop and manage our regular group of referees, as well as sourcing qualified referees on occasion when an appropriate referee from our own pool is not available.

Working closely with the Fixture Secretaries, the Referees Co-Ordinator will ensure all Canterbury Eagles’ home matches are covered by a referee of appropriate age and experience. They will be responsible for informing the referees of the match location and kick-off time, and, in the event of a cancellation, ensuring the referee is informed in good time. They will also publish a list of the assigned referees to all managers on a Friday ahead of the weekend matches.

After matches, the Referees Co-ordinator will ensure the Club Secretary has an up-to-date list of the referees from the weekend’s matches to ensure they are paid correctly and promptly.

The role will involve working closely with the Fixtures Secretaries and the Club Secretary.

Key duties

Proactively communicate with referees and coaches to confirm matchday officiation

Maintain and develop the club’s list of active and reliable referees

Ensure referee payments are made in a timely fashion

Encourage club members from age 14 upwards to get involved in refereeing

Expected hours of the role (per week)

The club aims to have league and cup matches confirmed by Tuesday before any given weekend match, but communication will occur at various points during the week, potentially on match days. The role is expected to take 2 to 3 hours per week but referees are often happy to be booked weeks in advance so it is possible to save time by assigning multiple matches at once.
