Plans for the perfect pitch

Over the past year we’ve been working closely with our friends at Simon Langton Girls’ School to build a case for the funding of a full-sized floodlit 3G pitch. In November, after consultation with Canterbury City Council, Kent FA and others, the Football Foundation published its Local Football Facilities Plan (LFFP), identifying grassroots football projects that have a strong case for their support. And we’re excited to say the SLGGS project has been listed as a priority.

Whilst inclusion on the list doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll get the go ahead, it is a huge hurdle cleared on the way to building a facility that would be transformative for both the school and of course, for the Eagles. The Football Foundation’s LFFP and the plan covering Canterbury is available to read here

It’s the latest development in a blossoming relationship with Simon Langton Girls’ School. During this Covid-disrupted season we’ve had a number of our teams playing matches at the school, and our new Wildcats group, which has been taking place there on Saturday mornings, has been a huge success. Wildcats is also our first step towards providing lots more footballing opportunities for girls - something the school is obviously extremely supportive of!

To be able to make such a fantastic facility our permanent home would be incredible, so we’ll be sure to keep you updated with developments as the bid progresses.
