Disability teams end of season round-up
It’s been a very exciting season for our two disability teams, competing for the first time as Canterbury Eagles. Firstly, I would like to thank Sam Baker, Kerry Harris and Simon Groom for all their hard work coaching the teams. They’ve all done a great job, and we’re sad to see Simon leave, but unfortunately for us he has other commitments.
The Kent Disability Football League takes the form of a series of monthly tournaments, with points accumulating over the course of the season. Our Spitfires team entered the top division, Championship 1, and the Hurricanes competed in Championship 3.
Spitfires
Despite having a maximum of 11 players registered at the start of the campaign, we often struggled with availability for various reasons, which meant we were reduced to only 5 or 6 players at times. Having said that, they put in a huge amount of effort on the field of play and did themselves, the team, and the club proud, finishing in 3rd place.
Hurricanes
At the start of the season we weren’t sure how this team would perform. It was a completely new team and the players had not played together before. But at their first tournament it was clear they were working well together, taking their place at the top of the table and holding onto it all season. Overall they won 30 games, drawing 4 and losing 1 - amassing an amazing 94 points!
The teams would like to thank Eagles for welcoming them into the club, and giving them the opportunity to continue to play football.
