Welfare Officer

Overview

Canterbury Eagles FC is, primarily, a club for young people and safeguarding - that is the health, wellbeing and rights - of our young people is at the core of our club.

The Club Welfare Officer’s role is to ensure the understanding of the club’s safeguarding responsibilities, for our players, to our coaches, volunteers, parents and guardians.

The role supports the club in understanding how this responsibility, for our players, is delivered at training, match days and other interactions.

Club Welfare Officers are a key part of the club’s committee and support in leading on any investigations as well as providing advice and support to parents/guardians, players and volunteers on safeguarding matters.

Key Duties

  • Understand the legal and statutory responsibilities of the club in safeguarding

  • Lead the DBS safer volunteer recruitment process

  • Be the welfare link between agencies and bodies and the club

  • Provide an advisory service to parents, players and volunteers on safeguarding matters

  • Support on any investigations, from a safeguarding perspective

  • Support in communicating safeguarding and welfare responsibilities to the club

  • Uphold the club’s ethos and values as a role model for the club

Expected hours of the role (per week)

The role’s involvement can vary, depending on specific investigations or circumstances, but it is usual that Club Welfare Officers spend around 1 hour per week on the role.
