Time to shine for female football coaches

Football coaches from Canterbury Eagles FC and other clubs in Kent came together on Saturday, 14 January in Canterbury for a special event, aimed at supporting more women and girls to develop their football coaching skills.

‘Thriving on the pitch’ was organised by the Kent FA and aimed to encourage existing and aspiring female football coaches to take the next steps in their journey to be successful coaches. It was run by Sharon Muxworthy, South East Regional Women and Girls’ Development officer from the England FA.

25 women and girls from Canterbury Eagles, Ramsgate, Rising Stars, Bromley and Faversham Strike Force enjoyed the event at Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School which combined classroom activity with a practical session in the hall, where girls from Canterbury Eagles U12s were put through their paces by the coaches.

Jo Treharne, Women and Girls’ Development Officer for Canterbury Eagles FC said: “we were delighted to work with the England FA, Kent FA and Langton Girls’ School to bring this event to Canterbury. Our club is committed to encouraging more women and girls to take up football as players, coaches or volunteers so events like this are vital. I was especially proud of our U12 girls who took part in the practical session, and the aspiring coaches from our U15s girls team who are just starting their journey into coaching. We hope to be able to offer more events like this one in future as it was such a success.”
